Overview
The Red Bull Megaloop Challenge 2013 marked the inaugural edition of the prestigious big air event. It was designed to strictly evaluate extreme megaloops, testing the riders’ height, distance, and radical execution.
Location and Conditions
The event was held at “The Spot” in Zandvoort, located on the west coast of the Netherlands. The North Sea’s powerful storms and gale-force winds provided the ultimate testing ground for this extreme competition.
Format and Participating Riders
A select group of 16 riders participated in the event. The competition utilized a four-man heat format. The rules were simple yet demanding: regardless of how many jumps a rider attempted, the one who landed the single highest-scoring megaloop won the heat.
The roster featured big air heavyweights including Jerrie van de Kop, Steven Akkersdijk, Lasse Walker, and Kevin de Smidt.
Highlights and Showdowns
Battling for the title of the first-ever champion, athletes threw caution to the wind, executing massive megaloops in the stormy conditions. Local Dutch riders leveraged their home advantage to deliver crowd-pleasing, jaw-dropping performances.
