GKA Freestyle Kite World Cup Germany 2026

Overview

“Well I feel really good, my first heat of the year here in Borkum, feel really good to be back in the Tour. I hope I can get to the final and get the trophy again”

Gianmaria Coccoluto

Held from June 3 to 7, 2026, the “GKA Freestyle Kite World Cup Germany 2026” marked the second stop of the freestyle season. It was the first time ever that the GKA Kite World Tour landed on Borkum Island in Germany.

Location and Conditions

Situated in the North Sea, Borkum is normally a quite familiar and very calm island with super nice nature. However, during the event, riders faced the challenging and brutal conditions typical of the North Sea. With an epic wind forecast, the water provided perfect conditions for freestyle kiteboarding.

Format and Participating Riders

The event followed the official GKA freestyle format. The men’s division featured a stacked fleet, including Mexico season opener winner Finn Flügel, Maxime Chabloz, Davi Ribeiro, Karim Mahmoud, Arthur Guillebert, Matteo Dorotini, and Japan’s Hironobu Nakano. A major highlight was the return of former world champion Gianmaria Coccoluto, who stepped back into competition after missing the first event. The women’s division brought together an elite group, including reigning queen Bruna Kajiya, Claudia León, local German riders Kaya Lehmann and Sabrina Lutz, alongside Francesca Bagnoli, Naïs Balbinot, and Martyna Konkel.

Highlights

The tough conditions of the North Sea set the stage for intense battles and dramatic moments.

In the men’s division, all eyes were on Finn Flügel as the man to beat following his victory in Mexico. However, it was Switzerland’s Maxime Chabloz who rose to the occasion. Showing incredible resilience, he bounced back from a 3rd place finish in the previous event to snatch the victory, claiming the inaugural Borkum crown and 1,000 points.

In the women’s division, Bruna Kajiya continued her absolute dominance. Following her commanding win in Mexico, she remained untouchable in Germany, securing a flawless back-to-back victory. With two consecutive wins, she has taken firm control of the 2026 season title race.
