Overview
Maxime Chabloz is a professional kiteboarder and professional freeride skier from Beckenried, Switzerland. He is a multi-athlete with extraordinary talent who has been crowned World Champion in two completely different extreme sports: on the water (Kitesurf Freestyle) and in the snowy mountains (Freeride Skiing).
Career and the Trials of “Mr. Number 2”
He started skiing as soon as he could walk and discovered kiteboarding at the age of 10. Showing overwhelming talent from his junior days, he fully committed to a grueling dual professional career: kiteboarding in the summer and freeride skiing in the winter. In 2022, during his rookie year, he sent shockwaves through the skiing world by winning the overall title of the Freeride World Tour (FWT), the pinnacle of freeride skiing.
Meanwhile, on the GKA Kite World Tour, despite consistently demonstrating the skill to reach the podium, he repeatedly fell just short of the victory, enduring the frustration of being labeled “Mr. Number 2” or a “regular in 3rd place” for a long time. However, using that frustration as fuel and honing his skills with incredible mental fortitude, he finally claimed the long-awaited title of “GKA Freestyle Kiteboarding World Champion.” He achieved his ultimate dream of becoming the best in the world in both skiing and kiteboarding.
Sponsors & Brands
He has been a team rider for F-ONE and Manera for many years, frequently riding the “WTF?!”, a C-kite dedicated to freestyle. He is also supported by brands like SunGod and Movement Skis for his skiing and eyewear, showcasing his success across different industries.
Personality & Friendships
Living by the motto “No risk, no fun,” his style is characterized by combining technical freestyle elements with a powerful and bold approach. In his personal life, he is in a relationship with Nina Font, a professional kiteboarder from Spain. They travel the world together, training and pushing each other to reach higher levels.
Quotes & Anecdotes
He is well-known for a hilarious and legendary moment at the 2018 event in Akyaka, Turkey. After landing a trick, he couldn’t kill his speed and was heading straight for the spectator area. At the very last second, he managed a desperate pop to clear the beach and avoid crashing into the crowd. Commentator Tom Court famously reacted to this evasion jump with deadpan humor, calling it “the biggest railey of the event so far”—a legendary line that still gets laughs in the kiteboarding community today.
Upon finally winning his long-awaited world title in kiteboarding, he compared it to his swift rise to the top in his skiing career, reflecting on his years of struggle:
“I’m world champion, that’s all I can think of right now. It’s something I’ve been dreaming about since I discovered kiting. The ski title I got the first year, but kite was always one step away. But the longer the journey, the sweeter the victory.”
