Held in Tarifa, Andalusia, Spain, the 2018 Jeep Tarifa Pro was a mega event on the GKA World Tour. Often called the wind capital of Europe, Tarifa is one of the birthplaces of the Strapless Tour. This event was historic as it marked the first time in five years that both the Strapless Freestyle and Air Games (Twin-Tip) disciplines were hosted simultaneously.
Location & Conditions
On the opening day, the Poniente wind (a cross-onshore wind from the right) provided optimal kickers for the riders to execute their tricks. The competition later continued under the notoriously strong and harsh Levante wind. This event also marked James Carew’s first time competing in Tarifa, though he later recalled it as a tough debut where he “never really scored the wind.”
Format & Participating Riders
The event drew massive attention for its large field and diversity. The Strapless division saw 33 entries from around the globe (including 6 women). The Air Games division featured 38 men and 11 women, bringing together top-tier athletes for a spectacular gathering.
Highlights & Iconic Matchups
In the Air Games, which demanded comprehensive Freestyle elements like Big Air and board-offs, Jesse Richman displayed overwhelming jump height and kite control. In the Strapless Freestyle, Airton Cozzolino landed stable rides and high-difficulty tricks even in strong winds, once again proving his dominance in Tarifa.
