Nick Jacobsen is a professional kiteboarder from Denmark. A former champion of the world’s premier Big Air event, “Red Bull King of the Air,” he is a Big Air legend renowned globally for his insane stunts and high-altitude jumps.
Career
He has competed in Big Air competitions around the world and won the highly coveted Red Bull King of the Air in 2017. For many years, he was the icon rider for Cabrinha, gaining popularity through video productions like “Fly Me To The Moon.” He then moved to the newly relaunched North Kiteboarding as team manager and main rider, deeply involved in the development of equipment such as the “Orbit.” In recent years, he has embarked on a new challenge by launching his own brand, “The Jacobsen Project (Jacobsen Kite).”
Sponsors and Affiliated Brands
He is considered one of the highest-earning athletes in the kiteboarding industry. He receives support not only from major brands within the industry but is also featured in stunt projects for global corporations. In 2017, as a promotion for Mercedes-Benz in the Middle East, he successfully completed an unprecedented stunt: arriving in a Mercedes AMG at the ultra-luxury “Burj Al Arab” hotel in Dubai and jumping off its helipad, 210 meters above the ground, into the sea with his kiteboard.
Personality and Friendships
He is also known as a key member of the extreme sports crew “Dirty Habits,” based in Cape Town, South Africa, performing numerous boundary-pushing stunts and video productions with Graham Howes and others. While known for his daredevil stunts, he has recently become a father, cherishing his family life while always plotting his next extreme project behind the scenes.
Quotes and Episodes
His journey hasn’t always been smooth sailing; he has had to face serious injuries. In the past, he suffered a severe injury—a broken fibula and torn ligaments—after a botched landing just two weeks before the Red Bull King of the Air, forcing him out of action for several months and missing the event. However, even in such difficult situations, he spoke candidly about his condition to fans and media, constantly demonstrating the toughness to return to the forefront of the sport.
