Bloodline of Noordwijk: Inheriting from Legends

“I’ve seen them kitesurfing since I was a little kid. They were local heroes… I wanted to be like them.”

Lasse Walker

The harsh seas of Noordwijk, Netherlands, served as the ultimate training ground for Lasse Walker. Growing up watching global legends like Ruben Lenten and Kevin Langeree charge the local storms, he naturally inherited the DNA of Big Air.

The boy who once respectfully called Ruben “Sir” out of pure admiration eventually defeated those very legends in the knockout stages of the Red Bull King of the Air (KOTA). This rapid ascent to becoming an icon of the new generation marks one of the most dramatic generational shifts in Big Air history.

Adrenaline and Silence: Mastering the Extreme Mindset

“We do crazy things, but we are not stupid.”

— Lasse Walker

In stark contrast to his aggressive riding style that challenges deadly storms, he actually suffers from intense pressure and extreme nervousness before competitions.

To overcome this weakness and control his anxiety, he incorporated breath-hold training, such as freediving. Within the breathlessness underwater, he learned how to lower his heart rate and find absolute silence and relaxation. The stark contrast between his quiet pre-heat routine—listening to Norah Jones to calm his mind—and the violently powerful Big Air he unleashes on the water is his greatest weapon for calmly dominating the chaos in the sky.

Breaking Limits in Red Bull Stunts

His precise kite control extends far beyond the realm of competition. As a Red Bull athlete, he successfully executed an unprecedented stunt: jumping over a low-flying airplane maintaining a near-hover in strong winds using a megaloop.

This was not merely a daredevil leap; it was the culmination of over two years of conceptualization and meticulous calculation, proving his absolute confidence that conquers fear.

Proof of the Phoenix: Return from KOTA 2016

His immense mental toughness is backed by his experience of overcoming past trauma. During the 2016 KOTA, he lost lift mid-megaloop and crashed into the water from a massive height at breakneck speed.

Unable to move, he was rescued by a jet ski and rushed to the hospital on a stretcher, having suffered a devastating crash resulting in broken ribs and lung contusions coughing up blood. However, the fact that he shattered that mental block to return to the forefront of Big Air speaks volumes about his current resilience.

Competition Results

He has consistently proven his top-level abilities by securing excellent results in numerous Big Air events. He is particularly praised as a true power rider who unleashes his full potential in extreme open-ocean conditions, such as the raging storms and massive waves of the North Sea in the Megaloop Challenge and Cold Hawaii.
