Overview
Hailing from Italy, Lorenzo Casati is the “Young Emperor” of modern kiteboarding. Forged in the massive waves and relentless winds of Tenerife, Canary Islands, his skills have reached the world’s elite level across Big Air, Strapless, and Hydrofoil. More than just an athlete, he is a next-generation “Complete Waterman” who is deeply involved in the engineering and R&D of the equipment he rides.
Career
In 2022, at just 17 years old, Lorenzo shocked the world by winning the Red Bull King of the Air (KOTA) in his debut appearance, becoming the youngest champion in the event’s history.
His greatest asset is his overwhelming kite control, often compared to a “precision machine,” pushing the boundaries of what was once thought impossible. The pinnacle of this was achieved on June 23, 2023, in the 35-knot winds of Tarifa, Spain (Balneario), when he successfully landed the world’s first “Triple Loop” in kiteboarding history. This historic moment established a new standard in the Big Air discipline.
He continues to introduce innovative combos into competition, such as the “S loop rodeo” and “Contra loop backroll board off,” debuting multiple world-first tricks at events like the Red Bull “Ride the Sky” Tarifa qualifier. Furthermore, he executed the world’s first synchronized kite loop with legend Aaron Hadlow, solidifying his role at the forefront of the sport’s evolution.
In 2025, he achieved the greatest feat in the history of the sport: “The TRILOGY.” By winning the GKA Big Air World Championship, Red Bull Megaloop, and Red Bull King of the Air all in a single season, he solidified his status as the absolute ruler of the Big Air scene.
Sponsors & R&D
His sponsor history is a crucial part of his career narrative. After years with Duotone, he made a massive surprise move to Cabrinha right after his maiden KOTA victory in 2022, and he achieved the aforementioned Triple Loop using their Drifter kite.
Seeking further evolution, he made another blockbuster move to the emerging brand Harlem Kitesurfing in late 2023. This move was more than just a sponsorship deal; it was a challenge to shape his ideal equipment from scratch. His feedback is at the core of the development of the “Harlem Force,” a flagship kite using innovative materials, proving that the evolution of gear can push performance to another dimension.
Personality & Friendships
The presence of his father, Renato Casati, is essential to Lorenzo’s success. Acting as coach, manager, and dedicated filmer, Renato is always on the beach with a radio, providing real-time instructions and analyzing every movement as data. This professional approach by “Team Casati” is the source of Lorenzo’s incredible consistency. His younger brother, Leonardo Casati, is also a prodigy following in his footsteps, and they continually push each other to new heights.
He shares a deep bond with fellow top riders Andrea Principi and Jeremy Burlando. As close friends since childhood and fiercest rivals on the water, these three have completely dominated the global Big Air podiums. Their absolute control over the scene and unyielding unity perfectly embody the concept of an “Il Sindacato Italiano del Big Air” (Italian Big Air Syndicate).
Quotes & Anecdotes
“It’s not just about winning; it’s about pushing the sport to a place it has never been before. Every time I go out, I want to show something that people thought was impossible.”
