Switch Stance

Switch Stance refers to riding or performing maneuvers in the opposite of one’s natural or dominant stance (main stance) in board sports. For example, a regular-footed rider going right foot forward, or a goofy-footed rider going left foot forward, is said to be riding “switch.”

In kitesurfing and other board sports competitions, performing tricks in switch stance offers a significant scoring advantage. Because executing takeoffs, rotations, and landings with the non-dominant foot forward drastically increases technical difficulty, judges highly reward these attempts under “Technical Difficulty” and “Risk Factor” criteria. Especially in freestyle or Big Air disciplines where versatility across both tacks is crucial, riders who can deliver high-level tricks in both main and switch stances gain a major competitive edge in overall scoring.
