Cabrinha

Overview

“At the end of the day, we don’t make hospital equipment. We make surf equipment… made for the sole purpose of letting people have fun.”

Pete Cabrinha

Rooted in Maui, Hawaii, Cabrinha is one of the world’s largest and most successful kiteboarding brands. It continues to lead the industry with technical innovations that revolutionized sport safety and product development deeply reflecting Maui’s surf culture.

History and Philosophy

Founded by legendary waterman Pete Cabrinha, the brand officially launched in 2000 as a premier label under the Pryde Group. In 2020, it regained its independence through a buyout led by former team rider John Modica and an investment group, returning to its roots as a private brand with its R&D hub in Maui. Operating with a “small & elite” team structure, Cabrinha also strengthened its portfolio by integrating Dakine’s wind sports division that same year.

Signature Products

The lineup features the latest big air machine “Nitro,” the legendary freeride benchmark “Switchblade,” the flagship wave kite “Drifter,” and the versatile “Moto S” favored by Theo Demanez. For boards, they produce cult-favorite masterpieces like the chop-killing “Tronic,” the high-end freestyleX-Caliber,” and the crossover surfboard “Flare.”

Technical Features

In 2005, Cabrinha revolutionized the sport by introducing the world’s first “Bow Kite” technology, enabling 100% depower simply by letting go of the bar. Recently, legendary designer Pat Goodman returned from North to lead product development once again. The brand also introduced the “Apex Series,” which blends ultimate performance with cutting-edge materials. Utilizing Ultra HT LE fabric in the “Switchblade Apex” and “Drifter Apex,” and infusing advanced composites into the “Vapor Apex” twin tip, they continue to push the boundaries of performance.

Team Riders

The current team is led by active riders like Theo Demanez and Alberto Rondina. Additionally, Lucas Arsenault inspires the global community by continuing to ride powerfully with a prosthetic leg after surviving a shark attack. Historically, Cabrinha supported iconic stars such as Keahi de Aboitiz, Moona Whyte, Jesse Richman, Nick Jacobsen, Lorenzo Casati, Stino, and Tom Bridge, all of whom helped build the brand’s legendary foundation.
