Format and Participating Riders
The event utilized a standard knockout heat format based on the GKA rulebook. In addition to pre-selected world-class riders such as Lorenzo Casati, Andrea Principi, Leonardo Casati, Finn Flügel, Mikaili Sol, and Francesca Maini, the competition saw a massive fleet of athletes who qualified through video entries and wildcards. The men’s division included event winner Jamie Overbeek, and the women’s division featured Alessa Sophia Mensch, all battling for the top spot in the fierce winds.
Highlights
Three unforgettable moments defined the history of this competition.
First, the unprecedented rematch drama between Lorenzo Casati and Baby Shark (Josue Sanferreira). A judging correction re-categorized Baby Shark’s trick from a tic-tac to a board-off, altering the scores and knocking Lorenzo out of the advancing position. A one-trick shootout was scheduled the next day in massive storm conditions. However, Baby Shark chose not to hit the water, and Lorenzo failed to land his single attempt, leaving the standings unchanged.
Second, 16-year-old Finn Flügel’s desperate kite swap. During the final heat, Finn crashed his newly deployed 7m² Flysurfer “Sonic” foil kite into the water. In a display of brilliant teamwork, Edgar Ulrich quickly handed Finn a spare kite from the beach, allowing him to fight his way back into a spectacular 2nd place finish.
Third, Jamie Overbeek’s “Perfect 10.0”. Having already secured his victory, Jamie had no need to take further risks. Yet, riding his ROODE Boards “GRAPHITE” twin-tip, he unleashed a never-before-seen “Double loop board-off double front roll”. This flawlessly executed madness earned him a perfect 10.00—the first ever in GKA Big Air World Cup history—leaving commentator Lewis Crathern in absolute awe.
